Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Volleyball hosted Grand Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup but fell to the visiting Lakers 3-1.

Grand Valley St. took the first set 25-20 and NMU answered by taking the second set 25-20 themselves. The third set saw a close one throughout, but GVSU held on to take a 25-23 victory. The Wildcats faced an early deficit in the fourth set but went on a late rally to get close, but the Lakers held on to win the set 25-21 and claim the match 25-21.

FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES

The Wildcats had four reach double figures kills on the day. Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) led the way with 13 kills while sophomore Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) added 12. Junior Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) chipped in with 11 with senior Maggie Liebeck (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) posted 10.

FIVE REACH DOUBLE-DIGIT DIGS

Defensively, five for NMU reached double-digit digs. Monsma posted a team-high 18 and Antunes had 16. Freshman Alli Yacko (Oak Lawn, Ill.) posted 13 while senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) finished with 11. Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) notched 10 digs.

SETTING UP HER TEAMMATES

Svoboda ended the match with 46 assists on the night. She dished out 15 in the second set for a match high. In the first set she had 11 and put up 10 in both the third and fourth set.

With the loss, NMU is now 10-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference while GVSU moves to 10-4 on the season and 3-3 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats return to action Saturday afternoon to face Davenport University in another GLIAC clash at 1 p.m. inside Vandament Arena. During the set break between sets two and three, new NMU Sports Hall of Fame Inductee will be honored.
