Women's Basketball Falls to Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  – The Northern Michigan University Women's Basketball Team faced Lewis University in the team's second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge, but fell to the Flyers 82-59.

Junior Darby Youngstrom (Cook, Minn./North Woods) led the Wildcats with 14 points. Freshman Lexi Smith (St. Germain, Wis./Northland Pines) added nine points with freshman Elizabeth Lutz (Marshall, Wis.) chipping in with eight.

Junior Jessica Schultz (Mineral Point, Wis.) finished with a team-best seven rebounds, grabbing four offensive rebounds, and also posted six points and two blocks. Sophomore Emma Benoit (Gilberts, Ill./Hampshire) finished with seven rebounds.

After the first quarter, the teams were even 16-16. The game remained close throughout the second quarter, with freshman Amber Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) making a layup with just four seconds to go in the half to give the Wildcats a 39-38 lead.

In the third quarter, Lewis began to pull away, finishing the quarter with a 60-50 lead. In the fourth quarter, NMU was outscored 22-9 to fall 82-59.

NMU falls to 1-1 on the season and returns to action Concordia University, St. Paul Thursday night.
