MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer (3-9-1, 1-8 GLIAC) dropped their second match of the year to Davenport University (8-4-1, 5-3-1 GLIAC), falling 1-0 after allowing an early goal Friday afternoon. 

The Wildcats struggled to stop the offensive attack of the Panthers through most of the contest. DU recorded eight shots, four on-goal in the opening half, while NMU took five, putting one on-target.

Davenport wasted little time getting their offense going scoring just seven minutes into the game. The Panther's Lasse Pico Kjeldsen found his first goal of the season to put DU ahead for what would be the contest's only score.

Junior midfielder Kevin Hoof (Grove, Minnesota) took a pair of shots in the opening half, but failed to put either on goal. Sophomore defender Mirko Nufi (Crema, Italy) sophomore midfielder Callum Olpin and sophomore midfielder Nick Metcalfe (Royal Oak, Michigan) each recorded a shot in the half, as well.

NMU had their offense shut down in the second half, recording just a pair of shots. Freshman defender Isaac Wigermo (Gothenburg, Sweden) and sophomore forward Colton Becker (Kalispell, Montana) took the two tries in the half, but neither could find the back of the net giving the Panthers the shutout victory.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Filippo Torelli (Parma, Italy) recorded his second highest save total of the season with six. Torelli recorded six one other time against Northwood University on September 17, while setting a season-high with eight on October the second time he faced the Timberwolves.

The final home game of the 2017 season for the Wildcats will take place Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. NMU will look to end their home season with revenge of Purdue University-Northwest who defeated NMU, 2-1, earlier this season in Hammond, Indiana.
