Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Northern Michigan volleyball team swept Walsh Saturday afternoon at the Cecchini Center.
The Wildcats earned their fifth sweep of the season by winning by 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21 margins.
"I'm proud of the team's bounce-back win today," head coach Dominic Yoder said. "Our middles did a very nice job scoring and channeling our opponents' attacks."
In the opening set, Northern Michigan recorded a .375 hitting percentage and limited the Cavaliers to a meager .148 mark. After being locked in a 7-7 tie, the Wildcats closed out the set on an 18-11 run to pull ahead in the match, 1-0.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after battling to a tight victory in the second set. The teams were tied 11 times, including at 23 all, before a kill by Maggie Liebeck and a service ace by Autumn Monsma sealed Northern Michigan's victory.
In the final set, the Wildcats overcame an early 10-5 deficit en route to their sweep. After they tied the score at 10 all with a 5-0 run, the teams were tied five more times. Northern Michigan ultimately took nine of the last 14 points to secure the win.
Liebeck (13) and Bridget Bussell (10) were the team leaders in kills. Liebeck also recorded a team-best three blocks. Jami Hogeboom posted 34 assists while Rachel Braunschweig (14) and Megan Dahl (10) reached the double digits in digs.
"Maggie had a very nice performance offensively and blocking," Yoder said. "Rachel and Megan led us on the corners."
Northern Michigan next heads to the Midwest Region Crossover tournament Oct. 14-15.
