Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio — The Northern Michigan women's basketball team fell to unbeaten No. 7 Ashland, 75-49, on the road Thursday night.
Northern Michigan trailed by three, 10-7, following a couple of Tess Weatherly lay-up's and a free throw. Northern Michigan trailed, 16-9, after one quarter of play.
The Eagles quickly grew a 12 point lead, 23-11, with 7:13 to play. After a couple of Taylor Hodell free throws and a Haley Kershner three pointer the deficit was cut to seven, 23-16. After an Ashland free throw, Kershner once again proved to be a threat on the perimeter knocking down her second three pointer of the quarter. Northern Michigan headed to the dressing room trailing by five, 34-29.
Ashland came out of the half by going on an eight point run to open up the second half. A Chloe Tompkins layup ended the run. The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game as the Eagles outscored the Wildcats, 22-9.
Kershner posted a team-high 12 points while Kendall Martenet added a team-best seven rebounds and contributed nine points.
With the loss, Northern Michigan moves to 4-9 (3-4 GLIAC) on the season. The Wildcats will continue their road trip at Lake Erie Saturday with tip off set for 1 p.m.
