Wildcats Fall at Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan women's basketball team fell to Grand Valley State, 70-30, Thursday evening at Fieldhouse Arena.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start, opening the game with a 5-0 run highlighted by a Chloe Tompkins lay up and free throw. Grand Valley responded by going on a 15-0 run to take a commanding lead by the 2:44 mark. Kendall Martenet found Darby Youngstrom on the perimeter for three to end the run with 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Laker offense continued to surge in the second quarter, using a second 15-0 run to take a 30-8 lead with 2:49 to play in the half. Taylor Hodell ended the run by connecting from the free throw line with 2:23 on the clock. The Wildcats trailed at halftime, 35-11.

The Lakers outscored the Wildcats, 20-8, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Youngstrom and Sydney Dillinger posted six points each while Hodell collected seven rebounds.

With the loss, the Wildcats move to 5-10 (4-5 GLIAC) on the season. They return to action Saturday against Ferris State at 1 p.m.
