SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan volleyball team made quick work of Lake Superior State Friday afternoon at Cooper Gymnasium.

The Wildcats swept the Lakers, posting victories of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-11. With the win, they improved to 20-9 (9-8 GLIAC), securing their third 20-win season in the past five campaigns.

"This was a very good team win for us," head coach Dominic Yoder said. "The team played very consistent defense and served aggressively. I'm proud of our team reaching the 20-win mark. They are excited to play against Northwood tomorrow."

In the first set, Northern Michigan won the last nine points with Jami Hogeboom serving. In that run, Madison Whitehead posted three kills while Maggie Liebeck added two.

At the start of the second set, the Wildcats raced out to a 10-5 advantage and never looked back. The third set was a repeat of the first, with Northern Michigan scoring the last nine points, this time with Meghan Supple serving, to wrap up the sweep. 

The sweep was Northern Michigan's 10th of the season and sixth in GLIAC play. The Wildcats have only been blanked once themselves in 2015.

Northern Michigan posted a .444 hitting percentage in the contest, its best mark of the season. The Wildcats only hit better than .400 one other time, in their season opener against Lake Superior State Sept. 3.

Whitehead and Kayla Chosa were the game leaders in kills, with nine each. They both recorded a hitting percentage well north of .500, at .583 and .562 respectively. Hogeboom recorded 26 assists while Alex Berger notched 12 digs.

Northern Michigan closes the regular season tomorrow against Northwood in Midland, Mich. at 5 p.m.
