ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team saw several personal bests and a school record fall during their first day of competition at the Grand Valley State Big Meet Friday.
Junior Olivia Howard set a new NMU school record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:58.04. Howard finished 33rd out of 122 competitors in the race.
Junior Christina Toogood improved her NCAA provisional ranking in the mile recording a personal best 4:56.49. Toogood was second in her section and 12th overall out of 56 competitors.
Junior Ebony Young and senior Cheyenne Stewart tied for third place in the triple jump both jumping 11.81 meters. Both athletes improved their provisional standing with the distance. It was a personal best for Stewart and a season-best for Young.
The Big Meet continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grand Valley State.
