Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team continued its undefeated run in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference play by downing Tiffin 79-55 Thursday at the Berry Events Center.
The Wildcats improved to 8-1 with a 5-0 league mark with the win, while Tiffin fell to 3-6 overall and 0-5 in GLIAC action.
"I'm happy with the way we played overall tonight," stated head coach Troy Mattson. "Everyone played great, especially our players of the bench."
NMU had four players score in double-figures led by junior guard Alyssa Colla with 17. Sophomore forward Nea Makela added 12 while junior forward Brooke Coenen came off the bench to pick up a double-double for the Wildcats scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds. Junior center Courtney Lemon also came off the bench to score 10 for NMU.
A layup by Lemon gave NMU its largest lead of the game 72-45 with 4:54 remaining in the game. A layup by Jordan Fraley early in the game gave Tiffin a 5-2 lead, but NMU answered quickly and never trailed after Makela hit a three with 14:57 remaining in the first half giving NMU a 10-7 lead.
Colla's 12 first half points led all scorers as NMU took a 43-23 lead at the half when Lemon drained a three as time expired. Colla was 6-6 from the floor in the half while Makela added 10 points for the Wildcats on 4-5 shooting.
NMU shot 65.5 percent from the floor (19-29) and was 5-10 from three-point range in the first half.
The Wildcats outrebounded Tiffin 35-29 and outscored the Dragons 38-16 in the paint.
Karli Mast and Fraley each scored 12 to lead Tiffin. Anya Misko led the Dragons with six rebounds.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 55.4-percent from the floor (31-56) and were 64.3-percent from three-point range (9-14).
NMU returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they face Ohio Dominican at the Berry Events Center.
