Northern Michigan Track and Field Scores Two Provisional Qualifiers

DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Michigan track and field team kicked off its indoor season with a pair of NCAA provisional qualifiers Saturday at the St. Scholastica Opener.

Junior Ebony Young and senior Cheyenne Stewart finished first and second respectively to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Young's first place jump was 38-6.25 while Stewart posted a jump of 37-9.50.

Stewart also won the long jump with a distance of 17-10.75 while Young finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.40. 

Junior Brittni Wirtz won the 200 and the 60-meter dash posting times of 27.12 and 7.98 respectively.

Senior Sydney Schultz placed third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 44.25. 

Freshman Jordan Devenney placed fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 10-00, while sophomore Melaina Mrozek was ninth for the Wildcats with a height of 8-6.25.

"It was a good opener for us to see where we are going into the break," said NMU head coach Cheree Hicks. "We are ready to get back to work and prepare for our first meet January 18." 

The Wildcats return to action January 18 at the Karl Schlender Invitational in Whitewater, Wis.
