MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey Wildcats dominated the Alabama Huntsville Chargers, 3-0, on Friday (Nov. 22) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action at the Berry Events Center.  The Wildcats improve to 5-5-1 on the year and 3-2 in the WCHA while the Chargers drop to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the WCHA.  The two teams will face-off again on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 7:07 p.m.

Northern Michigan jumped out to an early lead.  Just 4:03 into the first period Wildcat redshirt freshman Dominik Shine scored his first career goal with assists credited to redshirt freshman Shane Sooth and senior Erik Higby.  Shine's goal proved to be the game-winner.

"We have been really happy with their (Shine-Sooth-Higby) line and we knew that it was only a matter of time before they would account for more goals," said head coach Walt Kyle. "They (Shine-Sooth-Higby) were real good tonight."

Senior forward Reed Seckel put the Wildcats up 2-0 when he buried a shot on the power-play 11:31 into the first period.  Shine and freshman Sami Salminen assisted on the goal.  Seckel's goal was the lone Wildcat power play goal on three tries.  The second period ended with the Wildcats up, 2-0.

The Wildcats had another career first when Salminen scored 7:09 into the second period.  Sophomore Cohen Adair and senior Wade Epp assisted on the even strength goal.  Salminen's goal was the final goal of the game.  The Wildcats ended the game with 40 shots on goal.
Redshirt freshman Mathias Dahlstrom had 16 saves in net for the Wildcats.  The shut-out was Dahlstrom's second of the year.  He led the Wildcat defense that stopped all four of the Charger power plays on the night.  Dahlstrom now has a 4-3-1 record in net for the Wildcats with a 2.14 goals against average and .927 save percentage.

The Wildcats and Chargers will play the final game of their two-game series on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 7:07 p.m.
