Before NMU: Played one season at St. Francis University as a defensive end.

High School: Lettered twice at Tecumseh High School. Ranked No. 54 in Michigan for the 2011 recruiting class. Also participated in basketball.

Personal: Majoring in nursing. Son of Nick and Marla Benschoter. Born on November 28, 1992.
