Buddy Mitchell

Buddy Mitchell joined the Northern Michigan University football staff in 2017. Mitchell recruits the Southern Wisconsin and the Western Chicago, Illinois regions.

Mitchell has worked directly with the cornerbacks in individual drills along with teaching keys, techniques and schemes. Starting in the 2019 season, he also took over kickoff coverage and has assisted with all special teams. Mitchell also serves as the team’s academic coordinator.

Prior to coming to the Wildcats, Mitchell was the cornerbacks coach at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. In addition to his cornerback duties with the Cowboys, he also organized and ran all scout teams and scouting reports and acted as a supervisor for the student manager. He also assisted on all special teams while working as the Punt Defense Coordinator.

Mitchell got his coaching start as an Assistant Defensive Back Coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Working with the cornerbacks and strong safeties, he also worked as the offensive scout team coordinator where he organized and ran all scout teams and scouting reports.

A captain his senior year, Mitchell started 33 games at Austin Peay State, graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Movement.
