PREVIEW: #2 Wildcats vs #1 Lakers in GLIAC Championship

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The time has come. The GLIAC Championships are here.

After defeating #3 Concordia-St. Paul in the semifinals on Friday, the #2 Wildcats (13-5, 6-2 GLIAC) advanced to the GLIAC Championship game for the fourth consecutive season.

Awaiting the Wildcats are the hosts and defending champions, the #1 Grand Valley State Lakers (11-7, 8-0 GLIAC), who have won the GLIAC postseason tournament the past four consecutive seasons, and are looking to make it five in front of their home crowd.

Opening draw is set for 12 p.m. ET from the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan. Fans can catch the action via live stream on Flo Live, or follow along with live stats at nmuwildcats.com.

The Wildcats and Lakers have met in the GLIAC championship game at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium the past three seasons. Grand Valley emerged victorious in all of those match-ups: a 9-15 decision in 2025, a 3-13 final in 2024, and a 10-11 escape in 2023.

NMU and GVSU have played two other times this season, and are the 'Cats only conference losses: a 4-9 loss in Allendale at the end of March, and a heartbreaking 8-9 loss in Marquette after holding an 8-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Both teams were awarded numerous All-GLIAC honors at the award ceremony between the Lakers 16-6 win over Davenport and the 'Cats 15-7 win over Concordia. Josie Lakosky earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, and GVSU's Ella Boose, Karleigh Rothe, and Sarah Krause earned Midfielder, Defender, and Goaltender of the Year honors.
