#21 Wildcats Fall to Rangers

KENOSHA, Wisc. -- The #21 NMU men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Parkside Rangers.

The Wildcats (7-3-2, 4-1-2 GLIAC) picked up its first blemish of the conference calendar, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak and losing in Kenosha for the first time since August 24, 2023.

The Rangers (5-6-1, 3-4-1 GLIAC) won its biggest game of the season, thanks to a penalty kick conversion from Keven Sosa in the first half and a tally from Angel Luevano late in the second half. Ranger goalkeeper Mateusz Pass made five saves in the shutout effort.

The Wildcats got 90-minute efforts from goalkeeper Kristal (who made five saves from seven on target), defenders James Carr, Marcos Gallardo Rozano, Noah Girard, and forwards Luca Rosen and Sergio Cano Castro. Midfielder Xhoel Lutaj logged 89 minutes. Gallardo Rozano and Rosen paced all field players with three shots, and Gallardo Rozano and Cano Castro's two shots on frame were match highs as well.

Defender Davian Gumbs played 74 minutes before being subbed off with an injury, followed by Julius Lemm (72), Tyler Kowalczyk (54), and Ian Weimer (53). The 'Cats got five contributions from the substitutes, including shifts from Asa Dean (38) and Brody Stanton (31).

Both Cano Castro and Lutaj were booked with yellow cards, and Parkside keeper Pass received the only Rangers booking.

On the match, the Wildcats outshot the Rangers 15-11, including a 6-1 advantage in the first half, but the Rangers found more on target at 7-5. The 'Cats had five corner opportunities to three; the 'Cats were whistled for two offsides to none (including a whistle that wiped away a Rosen goal), and the fouls were relatively even at 18-21.

The 'Cats round out the weekend road trip on Sunday, October 11, when the 'Cats face the Purdue Northwest Lions at 12 p.m. ET.
