How it happened
In the 14th minute, the Wildcats were pressing a counter attack as Daavettila pushed the ball up the left side to Madison Bilbia who then centered the ball over to Frantti who fired the ball into the upper left corner of the net to open up the scoring. NMU continued to press the attack, but the Laker defense was able to keep the score at 1-0 going into the halftime break.
Both teams continued to battle in the second half as the Wildcats kept Roosevelt on their heels, but late in the match, NMU was able to break through as a corner kick from Ellis from the left side nearly 78 minutes into the contest found its way to a waiting Corley who headed it in just overtop of Laker goaltender Kaylee Sarnicola. Then, less than a minute later, the Wildcats capitalized on a turnover near midfield, pushing the ball ahead on the counter as Daavettila beat the last defender on pushed the ball just past the goaltender to extend the lead. Corley would then tack on one more from just outside the box off of a free kick in the 83rd to earn her first multi-goal game of her career and put the exclamation point on the game.
Carly Sides earned the win in goal, saving both shots she faced for the clean sheet.Â
