Wildcats Fall to Huskies on Friday Night

NMU dropped game one of the home-and-home series by a score of 8-2

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The NMU hockey team fell 8-2 to the #19/19 Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday Night.

The Huskies jumped out to a quick start, scoring three goals on four shots from Isaac Gordon, Stiven Sardarian, and Teydon Trembecky in the first eight minutes of the game. Head coach Dave Shyiak used his timeout and changed starting goalie Oliver Auyeung-Ashton for William Gramme

Reid Anderson opened the scoring in the second period, followed by tallies at five-on-three and five-on-four from Sardarian and Noah Reinhart. Reinhart added his second of the game late in the middle frame, giving the Huskies a seven-goal advantage. Goaltender Max Weilandt would start the third period. 

The Wildcats won the third period with tallies from Peter Cisar and Matthew Argentina. Argentina picked up an assist on the Cisar goal, giving him a multi-point game. Defenseman Olivier Beaulieu earned his first career point with an assist on the Argentina tally, and goaltender Weilandt made seven saves. 

The Huskies outshot the Wildcats 36-23, went 3/3 on both the power play and penalty kill, and held a 26-21 advantage in the faceoff circle. Tobias Pitka had a productive day in the dot, winning 12 of his 18 faceoffs (66.6%). 

The 'Cats now travel to Houghton to complete the home-and-home season series. Puck drop from the MacInnes Ice Area is 6:07 pm, and can be watched locally on TV6 along with Midco Sports Plus.
