PREVIEW: Lacrosse Hosts Saginaw Valley

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU lacrosse team is set to host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals for the teams penultimate home game of the regular season.

The Wildcats (8-7, 2-4 GLIAC) are coming off a pair of conference losses against Grand Valley State and Davenport and have dropped four of the previous five matches, with all four of those matches coming against conference opponents, making these final home games crucial for conference standings.

Newcomer to the GLIAC this year, the Cardinals (0-9, 0-4 GLIAC) travel to Marquette before finishing its road trip in St. Paul against the Golden Bears on Saturday.

Opening face off between the Wildcats and Cardinals is set for Thursday, April 17, at 5 PM from the Superior Dome. Fans can attend the event for free, or can live stream the game on FLoLive.

A Look at the Wildcats
The 'Cats are led by Josie Lakosky, who paces the GLIAC with 60 goals overall and averages 4.00 per game, posting 17 more goals and averaging one more goal per game than second place Anna Fisher of CSP. Lakosky also paces the GLIAC in points with 77, 19 more points one more PPG/average than Ashleigh Rothe of GVSU.

The 'Cats do a great job on the draws, as NMU holds four of the top ten GLIAC athletes in draw controls: those being Lakosky (2nd, 70), Katelyn Wozney (3rd, 55), Evita Weiche (7th, 38), and Payton Ross (8th, 22).

As a team, the Wildcats lead the conference in goals for (190), draw controls (220), and have the second-best scoring margin (3.5), shot percentage (.429), save percentage (.473), and have the second-fewest turnovers (211).

A Look at the Cardinals
The Cardinals are led by freshman Gabby Parker (17-1--18), followed by senior Sarah Veale (8-1--9), who is fifth in the GLIAC in draw controls with 29. Freshman goalkeeper Mikaila Stone has started and finished all nine games for SVSU, where she leads the conference in saves (84), saves per game (9.33), and ground balls (62).

As a team, the Cardinals average four goals per game while allowing 21 points per game.

NMU met Saginaw Valley in University Center for the first meeting in program history earlier this season, coming away with a 20-1 win, setting season highs in points, goals, assists, and ground balls in that game, thanks to Abby Sisson's nine.
