Men's Golf Ninth Thru 18 Holes at Flyer Spring Invite

WHEATON, IL. - The NMU golf team completed round one of the Flyer Spring Invitational, sitting T9 after 18 holes.

The 'Cats shot an 18-score hole of 318 (+30), good enough for ninth place of 13 teams. Davenport was in the lead at 297 (+9), followed by Illinois-Springfield at 301 (+13) and Maryville at 302 (+14).

Tyler Annala shot an opening round 78 (+6), eight strokes back of the leader Bryson Oots at 70 (-2). Annala, who started on 15, recorded a bogey on his first hole before firing eight straight pars from hole 16 to 5 to sit at +1 thru his first nine holes. Annala then shot +5 in his final nine holes (6-14) with six bogies and one birdie, coming on the par five seventh.

Walter Ylitalo scored an opening round 78 (+6) of his own. Walter started his round on 16, bogeying his first four holes before shooting +1 in his final 14 holes, ending with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 to end his round.

Brother Arthur Ylitalo was next in team scoring with his opening round 79 (+7). Arthur, starting on 15, was four over in his opening four holes before rattling off ten straight pars from hole one to ten. Three bogies in his final four holes would bring him to his first round 79.

Both Kyle Maki (83, +11) and Joe Luke (83, +11) rounded out the team scoring. Both recorded one birdie on their day, with Maki birdieing the 14th and Luke birdieing the 15th. Russel Sprecher competed as an individual, scoring a round of 78 (+6) with 12 pars.
