Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Downed by No. 9 Indianapolis

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The NMU women's lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the weekend downstate by a score of 18-3 against No. 9 University of Indianapolis.

The Wildcats (5-3, 0-0 GLIAC) scored three times in the opening half before being shut out the rest of the way, as the No. 9 Greyhounds (5-4, 0-0 GLVC) scored 10 unanswered goals in the second half while holding NMU scoreless in the final 34:03.

The 'Cats goals came from Taylor Priestley, Josie Lakosky, and Maddi Bast. Priestley also picked up an assist, giving her two points on the evening. Both netminders saw time tonight; Zoe Montgomery started the game and made seven saves on 18 shots, followed by Lauren Esposito making a pair of saves from nine shots on target.

The Greyhounds were led by Sage Da Silva (5-1--6) and Olivia Bladon (5-0--5), while starting goalkeeper Ava Graham made five saves from eight shots on goal. The Greyhounds out shot NMU 33-11 with 21 on target to nine, scooped 16 ground balls to 12, only had nine turnovers to NMU's 21, and caused seven turnovers to NMU's four.

The 'Cats now look ahead to Sunday at 11, where the team takes on new GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley in University Center, Michigan. The opening faceoff is set for 11 a.m. ET.

How It Happened
After the Wildcats make a great defensive stop with a caused turnover on the Greyhounds first possession and goalkeeper Montgomery made a great save on the second offensive chance, Indianapolis broke through with the games first game five minutes into the contest on their third chance in the offensive zone. The Greyhounds controlled the next two draws, scoring on each of the offensive possessions following, before forcing an NMU turnover and scoring a FPG to give the Greyhounds a 4-0 cushion and forcing a Wildcat timeout with six minutes to play in the first. The 'Cats opened its scoring from the stick of Bast, who made a nice fake pass to get her defender off her and a clear run to goal, stopping the Greyhounds and heading into the second quarter down 5-1.

The 'Cats went down 7-1 less than four minutes into the second before responding with a goal of their own, coming off the stick of Priestley. Priestley assisted on a Lakosky tally to make it 8-3 with five minutes to go before the halftime whistle. Montgomery made a save from a free position attempt just a handful of minutes later, and NMU had one more offensive chance before half. Graham made two saves off Lakosky and Jabas, NMU made a good defensive stop in the dying seconds, and the teams would go into the locker room at 8-3 in favor of the 'Hounds.

The Greyhounds held the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the entire third quarter while racking up six tallies of their own, ending the quarter with a free position goal with 12 seconds remaining to carry a 14-3 lead into the final 15 minutes.

The 'Hounds scored four more times in the final frame, ending the game at 18-3.
