PREVIEW: Wildcat Lacrosse En Route to Face UIndy and SVSU

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's lacrosse team is ready to hit the road and head downstate to face the Greyhounds of Indianapolis and the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley. 

The Wildcats defeated Lewis University 20-9 last weekend, after going on a six-goal scoring streak in the third quarter to secure the win. Josie Lakosky broke her own record for single-game points with 13 in the win, earning her both national and GLIAC weekly honors for offensive player of the week.

With another victory under Northern's belt, the 'Cats are set to battle against Indianapolis, a highly ranked GLVC opponent, on Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in Allendale, Michigan. NMU will then look to clash against new GLIAC member, Saginaw Valley, on Sunday, March 23 at 11 a.m. on SVSU's home field. 

A Look at No. 9/16 Indianapolis
Indianapolis enters the weekend ranked No. 9 in the IWLCA coaches poll and No. 16 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine media poll.

The Greyhounds have a current record of 4-4 overall and 0-0 in the GLVC and are riding a three-game losing skid. The caveat is the last three losses have all come from nationally ranked opponents in No. 4 Florida Southern (12-15), No. 1 Tampa (11-16), and most recently No. 16 Flager (10-14).

The Greyhound offense is led by junior Olivia Bladon (23-6--29), who has scored a combined 10 goals in the last three games. Behind Bladon is junior Sage Da Silva (15-4--19) and senior Caroline Krauch (9-6--15). Da Silva has scored six goals in the past three games with Krauch scoring five. Starting goalkeeper Ava Graham has recorded 69 goals scored against, as she averages 9.92 goals against and a 48.1% save percentage, the fifth and fourth best numbers in the GLVC.

The Wildcats are 0-5 against the Greyhounds all-time, with the last meeting being an Indianapolis victory over Northern 18-5 in March of 2023. 

A Look at Saginaw Valley
The newest GLIAC member holds a current record of 0-4 overall, 0-0 in the GLIAC. Saginaw's most recent loss was last Thursday to Dominican University of California, where SVSU was defeated 21-3. The Cardinals play Concordia-St. Paul on Friday before meeting the Wildcats on Sunday.

Freshman Gabby Parker leads Saginaw Valley's offense, as she has scored eight goals so far this season and has had one assist, resulting in nine points in total. Senior Sarah Veale (5-1--6) tailgates Parker, with Veale scoring three goals in the past two games. Freshman goalkeeper Mikaila Stone has recorded 80 goals against, with a 29.2% save percentage and 33 saves in total this season. 

The Wildcats and Cardinals will face each other for the first time in each program's history this weekend on SVSU's home turf.
