PREVIEW: No. 17 Wildcats travel to Parkside and Roosevelt

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Ranked No. 17 in Division II, the Northern Michigan women's basketball team turns its attention to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this weekend as it will travel to Parkside (4-3) for a matchup on Thursday, December 4, at 6:30 p.m. ET,  and Roosevelt (1-3) on Saturday, December 6, at 2 p.m. ET.

The Wildcats played a rare doubleheader last weekend against Minnesota Crookston in which they picked up 89-57 and 78-63 victories. 

Each game this week can be streamed on FloCollege or listened to live on 100.3 The Point (Thursday) with Casey Ford on the call.

About the Wildcats
The Wildcats are 8-1 through nine games for the second straight season under third-year head coach Casey Thousand. Northern is third in the GLIAC in scoring offense (74.0), second in scoring defense (59.2), and second in scoring margin (+14.8). 

Jacy Weisbrod leads the conference at 18.7 points per game while shooting 47.0% from the field. She tied her career-high with 29 points in Saturday's tilt with Crookston. The senior is the country's top shooter from beyond the arc, averaging 4.1 made threes per game with 37 makes in total. She is also second in three-point percentage (44.6%) for those who have attempted at least 50. 

Behind Weisbrod, the Wildcats have one of the most balanced rosters in the country. Sarah Newcomer is averaging 8.7 ppg, followed by Addison Pytleski (8.3), Alyssa Hill (8.2), and Sydney Whitehouse (7.6). While each of the aforementioned has had multiple double-digit scoring games, Madison Schroeder and Faith Walder have also reached double figures this season, bringing the total to seven players who have already scored 10+ in a game. In addition, CJ Romero has led the offense with 4.6 assists per game. Her 2.4 assist/turnover ratio is tops in the GLIAC.


About Parkside
The Rangers are 4-3 on the season, but are coming off an impressive defeat in which they fell at No. 5 Minnesota State 85-73. 

Parkside is averaging 63.9 points per game while allowing just 60.6. Leading the way in Kenosha is sophomore Katie Hamill at 15.9 points per game, good for third in the GLIAC. Cassidi Arni (13.3) and Lilli Peterson (11.8) are also in double figures, rounding out a formidable trio. 


About Roosevelt
The Lakers enter the weekend after their lone victory this season, a 61-60 triumph over Walsh on November 22. RU also knocked off Western Michigan 82-70 in an exhibition on the 25th. 

The Rangers have the worst scoring offense in the league at just 52.0 points per game, but have a top-5 defense that surrenders just 62.3. Isabella Pitta (13.0) and Kelly Boyle (10.3) lead the way on offense, while Marie Outlay leads the GLIAC with 4.3 steals per game and is second in rebounding at 7.5.
