Basich tabbed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

The guard totaled 16 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals in 28 minutes last week

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan's Bennett Basich has been tabbed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week after he helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of victories this past week.

He opened the week with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in an 87-35 victory over Concordia Wisconsin, playing just 16 minutes. He'd follow that up by stuffing the stat sheet in 12 minutes of work in a 109-52 win over Marian, tallying six points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals, helping lead the way for an NMU defense that allowed just 43.5 points per game this past week. In 28 minutes of work on the weekend, still less than 3/4 of one game, he totaled 16 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.

Basich has played a big role in the NMU defense that is allowing just 60.4 points per game this season, ranking seventh nationally.
