MARQUETTE, Mich. -- A select group of student-athletes from the NMU swim and dive teams are traveling to Sarasota, Florida, to compete in the 2025 CSCAA Open Water Collegiate Nationals.

Timothee Garin, Alessandro Rosatelli, and Zachary Billotte will represent the men, all of whom will be swimming in their first open-water championships. Veterans Caitlin Aarseth and Anika Wright, along with Ellie Kilgard, will represent the women. Swimmers will complete three laps of 1.66 km in the open-water 5K.

The 2025 CSCAA Open Water Championship will take place on December 13, 2025 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. USA Swimming has once again designated this event as an approved qualifying event. The top five finishers for each gender earn invites to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championships.

The men start at 8:30 a.m., and the women begin two hours later at 10:30 a.m., and all the information for the event can be found here.

Both Wright and Aarseth competed at the 2024 CSCAA Open Water Collegiate Nationals, with Wright finishing 4th among DII athletes and 35th overall and Aarseth 9th among DII athletes and 81st overall. This will be Aarseth's third Open Water Collegiate Nationals, her first appearance coming at the 2022 event. The race in 2023 was canceled due to weather.

All three men will compete in the open water for the first time in their respective collegiate careers. Garin, the current sixth-ranked swimmer in the GLIAC, specializes in distance, most recently finishing third in the 1650 free and fifth in the 500 free at the Calvin Invite. Rosatelli just turned in strong performances at the Calvin Invite, and Billotte competed with Garin in the 1650 free at the Calvin invite.

Wright, the current seventh-ranked swimmer in the GLIAC, a First-Team All-American in the 1650, will compete in her second open water nationals after competing last season. A veteran to open water swimming, Aarseth returns to the water for the third time in her collegiate career, while sophomore Kilgard will embark on the open water for the first time in her collegiate career.
