PREVIEW: #3 Wildcats Host #6 Pride for First Round of GLIAC Tournament

This marks the first time in program history that the team will host a playoff game on the NMU Soccer Field

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Moving into post-season play, the Wildcats will prepare to face Purdue Northwest in the GLIAC quarterfinal match this Sunday, November 9.

The 'Cats enter the tournament holding the third seed position, behind Saginaw at one and Roosevelt at two. This will be just the second time in program history that the first round of the tournament will be held in Marquette, and only the first time being held on the NMU pitch.

Last weekend, the NMU Men's Soccer team (7-4-5 overall, 6-4-2 in conference play) secured a weekend sweep in matches against Roosevelt (2-1) and Purdue Northwest (3-0). This success ended the Wildcat's regular season on a high note, as the team honored six seniors on Sunday's senior day. This weekend of successes and celebrations for the Wildcats propelled the team to third place in the GLIAC standings, the best regular-season finish in program history.

For his efforts in last weekend's wins, Sophomore Ian Weimer was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the first time in his career receiving such honors. Weimer scored the huge game-winning goal to slide past Roosevelt. This win put the Lakers' hopes of being back-to-back GLIAC Regular Season champions to rest. He also contributed one of the three goals in the win over the Pride on Sunday.
