#5 Wildcats face #4 Bulldogs in GLIAC Quarterfinals

Wildcats won 2-1, drew 2-2 with the Bulldogs this season

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU women's soccer team enters the postseason as the fifth seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will travel to Big Rapids to face the fourth-seeded Ferris State Bulldogs.

The match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, at noon from the Bulldog Soccer Field in Big Rapids. Fans can watch the match on Flo College, and follow along with live stats at nmuwildcats.com/sidearmstats/wsoc/summary. Fans can also follow @NMU_wsoc on Instagram and @NMU_wsoccer on X (formerly known as Twitter) for updates leading up to and during the matches.

After its 1-0 win over Purdue Northwest to end the regular season, the Wildcats (6-7-5, 6-6-2 GLIAC) cemented its fifth-place finish, and would await results over the weekend to determine where the team would travel to open the GLIAC postseason. NMU ended the season on a four-game unbeaten streak, only allowing three goals in that frame and collecting back-to-back clean sheets in the final two matches.

The Bulldogs (8-4-6, 8-3-3 GLIAC) took care of business over the weekend, beating Parkside 2-1 and Roosevelt 3-0 at home to end the regular season and extend its unbeaten streak to six games, ending the 2025 campaign 5-0-1 in the final six contests. The only blemish in that time came on October 26, a 2-2 draw to the Wildcats in Big Rapids.

In the two meetings between the sides this season, the 'Cats defeated the Bulldogs 2-1 at home and earned a point on the road after a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2. Hannah Kastamo scored a brace in the 2-1 comeback win back on October 3, and Kenna Alexander scored the game's opening goal before adding an assist on the game-tying goal with two minutes left on October 26 in Big Rapids. Alexander is a name to watch, as the senior captain has scored goals in four consecutive matches to end the regular season, and is currently tied with Kastamo for the team lead in goals with five.

Katherine Welch ended the regular season with four goals and an assist in the final five matches while pacing the GLIAC in shots on goal and second in total shots. Natalia Leavens has four assists in four games, and goalkeeper Korinne Ihrke has four clean sheets in the last six matches for the Bulldogs, and her 0.851 GAA is second in the conference.

The Wildcats and Bulldogs have both scored 24 goals in the 2025 campaign, while the Bulldogs have only allowed 15, the second-best mark in the GLIAC behind GVSU (9). Both teams threaten offensively, as the Wildcats and Bulldogs are three and two in the GLIAC in corner kicks at 94 and 104, respectively.

One area where these two teams are drastically different is in the discipline category, as the Wildcats own the fewest total fouls (142), fouls per game (7.89), and yellow cards (4). The Bulldogs have committed the third-most fouls (213) and fouls per game (11.83), while accumulating the second-most yellow cards in the conference (22).
