William Gramme Named CCHA Goaltender of the Week

CCHA - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its Players of the Week for October 3-5 and four student-athletes from four different programs have been recognized... William Gramme earned the Goaltender of the Week award.

Gramme, earning his first CCHA Goaltender of the Week honor, posted a .947 save percentage over the weekend, stopping 107-of-113 shots for the Wildcats in a season-opening series at No. 15 UMass.

On Saturday, Gramme made 65 saves, setting a career-high and breaking the NMU program single-game record that had stood for 41 years (previous record - 57, John Corrigan vs. Boston College, 12/8/84). This also marked the second-most saves in a modern NCAA (since 2004) regulation game, the most by a collegiate goaltender since Jocelyn Guimond of RIT stopped 66 in a 3-2 win on October 10, 2005, vs St. Lawrence. Gramme also made 34 saves in the opening 20 minutes of his first Wildcat start, breaking the program record for single-period saves, a record that stood for 22 years (Previous record - 27, Craig Kowalski vs. Michigan, 10/24/03, 2nd period)

He then turned away 42 on Sunday, setting the NMU program record for most saves in a weekend series with his 107 combined, another record that stood for 41 years (Previous record - 92, Jeff Poeschl vs. Wisconsin, Jan. 3 to Jan. 4, 1984).

After the first weekend of play: Gramme leads the nation in saves (107), and his .947 SV% is an NCAA best among goalies who have faced 69+ shots.
