PREVIEW: Women's Soccer to have Senior Weekend

Wildcats to honor Hannah Kastamo, Addison Wargo, Kenna Alexander, Jillian Thompson, and Olivia Moreno

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team is home for two of its last three regular-season games, where they face off against Roosevelt and Parkside for senior weekend.

This weekend is senior weekend! The team will honor Hannah Kastamo, Addison Wargo, Kenna Alexander, Jillian Thompson, and Olivia Moreno before kick-off against Parkside on Sunday.

The Wildcats (3-7-5, 3-6-2 GLIAC) are coming into this weekend off of a tough weekend on the road, where they first saw conference leader and fifth-best team in the nation, GVSU. The second matchup included a 2-2 tie at the hands of Ferris State, which included a late goal from Madison Bilbia to earn a point on the road.

The Wildcats have not clinched a spot in the GLIAC postseason yet, as they sit in sixth with 11 points, just four points ahead of last-place Roosevelt and Michigan Tech.

Roosevelt ( 4-8-1, 2-7-1 GLIAC) is going into the matchup off a split weekend, with a loss against Saginaw Valley State and a win against Purdue Northwest. Their first faceoff against SVSU had a goal at the 62nd minute mark of the game, to get the single point. The second game had a 3-0 finish against Purdue Northwest. This is a crucial match for the Lakers, as a win would get them within one point of the 'Cats, where a loss would balloon that margin to seven.

Parkside ( 7-5-2, 7-2-1 GLIAC) was on the road this weekend, where they recently had matches against Ferris State and Davenport, which ended in a split. Their first game against Ferris State ended in a 0-1 loss, while the game against Davenport ended with a 1-0 win. Parkside recently secured a spot in the GLIAC tournament, where they are currently second in the conference, right below GVSU.

Hear from Coach Egolf
"Our seniors have been great. They've made a huge impact on this program, and we want to do right by them this weekend…I think there's always an intensity about our team to want to go out and perform well, and with senior weekend added on top of that, I can't wait to see what that looks like."

Last Time Out
The Wildcats went into the game against Grand Valley off a loss to Davenport while on the road. NMU played GVSU to a scoreless game for the first 38 minutes before two goals in the final seven minutes of the opening frame, including a goal with ten seconds left in the half, before the Lakers added its third in the second half.

The second road game ended in a tie, with NMU opening the scoring thanks to Alexander. A few minutes later, Ferris State scored before adding a second before the halftime break. In the dying minutes of the game, Alexander delivered a corner kick that found Madison Bilbia on the far post, and the 'Cats earned a point from an 83rd-minute goal.

Looking at our Opponents
Roosevelt is currently at the bottom of the conference, with 7 points. In the last three games since Roosevelt joined the GLIAC in 2024, Northern has won all three of the matchups. Roosevelt's leading scorer is Daisy Garcia, who has 5 goals and 13 points, the fourth and fifth-best marks in the conference. After missing most of the season and now returning from injury, senior Roxy Herrera has started the last five matches for the Lakers, where she has 38 saves and of .844 save percentage to go along with earning her first GLIAC weekly honor last weekend.

Parkside is currently second in the GLIAC, with 22 points, right behind GVSU at 27. The 'Cats lost 2-1 in Kenosha earlier this season, but Northern has a winning streak at home against Parkside, not having dropped a game to the Rangers in Marquette since the 2019 season. Emily Mikkelson (3-6--12) leads the Rangers while also leading the GLIAC in assists. Senior Tristen Cross commands the goal, where her 4.36 saves per game are third in the conference.
