PREVIEW: Wildcats Gear up for Regular Season Finale and Senior Weekend

Wildcats to honor Scialanga, Hoffmann, Nelson, Rebori, Gray, and Huegel

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU Men's Soccer team will gear up to play in the final two matches of the 2025 regular season play. The team will face Roosevelt on Friday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m. and Purdue Northwest on Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. 

Sunday's match will be Senior Night for the 'Cats. This day will honor seniors Alessandro Scialanga, Jan Hoffmann, Max Rebori, Triston Nelson, Mads Huegel, and Harry Gray as the six gear up to take to the NMU pitch for the last time during the regular season. 

With a good result for the Wildcats yesterday, NMU has the opportunity to host next weekend's quarter finals, the opening round of conference play.

The Wildcats (5-4-5) hold the fourth spot in the GLIAC rankings, clinching them a spot in postseason play. Roosevelt (7-2-1) will enter the weekend in the second spot with a chance to win the regular-season title over the weekend, and Purdue Northwest (1-7-2) in the eighth position, looking to play spoiler.

Luca Rosen earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, marking his second time this season receiving these honors. Rosen's (7-0--14) goal and point totals are second to Fynn Mewes (8-1--17) of Roosevelt, priming Friday's match for fireworks.

'Cat Nips
  • Luca Rosen secured the Offensive Player of the Week title by scoring the final two goals in the 3-0 win over St. Cloud State on Sunday, October 26. He also matched a single-game and season-high 10 shots in the Parkside match on Wednesday, October 22. In conference play, Rosen leads the GLIAC in shots (60) and shots on goal (33). The 'Cat is also leading the nation in shots per game (4.79) and marks sixth in the nation for shots on goal per game (1.93).
  • Asaf Kristal leads the conference in SV% (.841) and shutouts per game, recording a shutout in seven out of fourteen games. Kristal holds the second mark in the GLIAC statistics for saves (69). He has played all 1260:00 minutes for the 'Cats in the 2025 season.
  • This Wildcat team will wrap up their regular season play this weekend, having scored 13 goals on the season (10 in conference play), currently averaging 0.929 goals per game. Another 'Cat making an impact on the offensive efforts is Tuen Van Gansewinkel with 6 points on the season.

Notes on the Opponents
Roosevelt
Roosevelt (9-2-4, 7-1-2), the team holding the second spot in the GLIAC, will enter the weekend coming off a 1-1 split last weekend with Saginaw Valley, the conference leaders, and a win over Davenport (1-0). Fynn Mewes is leading the Laker charge with 10 goals and two assists, the most goals from a single player in the conference thus far this season. The last meeting of these two teams ended in a 1-0 win for the Lakers.

Purdue Northwest 
The Purdue Northwest Pride hold a record of 2-11-1 and 1-7-2. This marks them in the eighth and last spot in the GLIAC rankings. The Wildcats bested the Pride in the sides' most recent meeting (1-0). The team has scored 16 points on the season, compared to its opponents' 30. Landon Potts leads this team with four goals and one assist, followed by Rami Hassan Zantout with three goals, one assist.
