PREVIEW: The Men’s Soccer Team is Set to Visit St. Cloud for More GLIAC Play

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Wildcats return to the road to face the team's fourth GLIAC opponent of the 2025 season. This match will mark the third week of GLIAC play for the Wildcats, as they take on the St. Cloud State Huskies. 

In conference play, NMU holds a record of 1-2-0 to go with a 2-2-3 overall record. In comparison, this is the Huskies' second week of GLIAC play, and they enter the weekend with a conference record of 1-1-0  and an overall record of 3-3-1.

NMU is coming off a split weekend after last week's 1-0 win over Purdue Northwest and 0-1 loss to the 2024 regular season champions, Roosevelt. The Huskies are also coming off a split weekend, coming out on top over Davenport (1-0), but falling to Saginaw (0-1). 

The Wildcats currently hold the fourth spot in the GLIAC rankings. This puts them one spot ahead of the St. Cloud Huskies, as they hold the fifth position, making this a crucial conference matchup. 

Kick-off from Husky Stadium is set for Sunday, October 5, at 1:00 p.m. ET.

'Cat Nips
  • The Wildcats have been powerful on the offensive side of the ball, as NMU is second in the GLIAC in shots on goal per game (4.43) and third in corner kicks (31). 
  • Leading the offensive charge are Teun Van Gansewinkel and Luca Rosen. They both lead the conference in shots (22), with Rosen second (11) and Van Gansewinkel eighth (8) in shots on target.
  • Van Gansewinkel and Luca Rosen are tied as the team's leaders in points, with two goals apiece, placing them at sixth in the conference.
  • Asaf Krital has continued to show up in big ways for the 'Cats. Kristal remains second in the GLIAC in goals against (6) with a GAA of 0.857, and has recorded three shutouts, just one shy of the conference lead. Kristal is fourth in the conference for saves (20), third for SV% (0.76), and fifth for saves per game (2.86). 
  • Kristal leads the team in minutes played with 630, followed by Owen Rutledge (623), Quint Van Roij (617), and James Carr (605).
Notes on the Opponent
St. Cloud State
St. Cloud is currently fifth in the conference leaderboard, one spot behind the 'Cats. The team has been putting a strong offensive foot forward, scoring in every game this season, aside from the most recent loss to Saginaw Valley. The Huskies are the nation's leaders in shot accuracy (0.649), and GLIAC leaders in fouls per game (9.43).

The Huskies are led by Andrés García, he is second in the GLIAC for goals (4) and fourth for shots on goal (10). He also holds the conference's second place ranking in game-winning goals (2). Seven other St. Cloud players have all scored one a piece, tying them for second most on the team. Ryder Delport and Diego Ramos hold the ninth and tenth positions for most assists in the conference, each tallying two. 

The Huskies' goalkeeper, Ramy Atia, has a save percentage of 0.649 and is third in the GLIAC for saves per game (4). The keeper has recorded one shutout this season, and has a GAA of 2.30.
