Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan men''s basketball team fell 79-49 at No. 14 Lake Superior State on Saturday evening.
The Wildcats never led in the game and shot just 18-56 (32.1%) while the Lakers were 26-55 (47.3%). The Lakers made a big difference from beyond the arc, connecting on 15-30 (50.0%) while the 'Cats were just 4-25 (16.0%).
Sam Privet led the way for NMU with 13 points while
Dylan Kuehl chipped in 10. LSSU had 12 scorers led by 23 from Tyson Edmondson.
The Lakers started the game with an 8-0 run and NMU battled back, with
Cal Klesmit hitting a three to cut the deficit to one at 14-13. Soon after, the Lakers broke out on an 18-0 run over an almost six minute stretch, hitting four triples on the run to take a commanding 35-16 lead late in the first half.
NMU trailed 45-27 at the half, scoring eight of the final 11 points. The Lakers were 9-16 (56.3%) from three in the half.
In the second half, LSSU went on a 20-5 scoring run to extend its lead to 73-38, its largest lead of the game, and NMU was never able to get back into it.
Northern fell to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the GLIAC while the Lakers are now 17-3 and 8-2 in the league.
