SAGINAW, Mich. - In the first meet of the season, the NMU men's golf team finished in 9th of 14 teams, shooting a collective +31 over 36 holes.
The Wildcats sat in 4th place after day one, shooting a +8, but took a slight step back on day two, shooting a +23 for the two-day total of +31. Wayne State (B) won the tournament, shooting a score of -3. Wayne State (A) took second place at +5.
Northern was led by
Walter Ylitalo who carded a +3 first round of 75 followed by a second round +2 (74) for a two-day total of +5 (149). His score was good for 21st in the tournament, with nine birdies over 36 holes.
Right behind was his brother Arthur, who golfed rounds of +1 (73) and + 5 (77) for a two-day score of +6 (150). Over his 36 holes, Arthur carded seven birdies.
Eric Yun took third on the team with a +2 (74) on day one and a +6 (78) in the second round.
Russel Sprecher +2 (74) and +12 (84) and
Tyler Annala +6 (78) and +10 (82) rounded out the scoring for the Green and Gold.
