The 'Cats Welcome Lewis University and Thomas More. Lewis made it to the NCAA Final Four in 2023

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Coming off a program first back-to-back wins to open the season, the Northern Michigan University men's soccer team now looks to continue its winning ways against Lewis University and Thomas More on the Wildcats' home turf.

Lewis University will be the biggest test for the Wildcats so far, as the Flyers made it to the NCAA Final Four last season and came into 2024 ranked fourth in the nation. Thomas More defeated the Wildcats last fall in the teams' first and only matchup, and the Wildcats now look to even the score. 

The 'Cats will face the Flyers on Thursday, September 12, at 2 p.m., followed by a match against the Saints on Saturday, September 14, at noon.

Cat Nips
  • The Wildcats are 2-0 to start the season, the first time in program history.
  • Goalkeeper Nils Cedergren has posted back-to-back shutouts in his first two games as a Wildcat
  • Three seperate 'Cats have found the scoresheet; those being captain Tommaso Lami and freshmen Teun Van Gansewinkel and Justin Alfaro
  • The Wildcats lead the GLIAC in goals scored (3) and shots (31), and Lami leads the conference in Shots (8) and shots on goal (5)

A Look at Lewis University 
Last season, Lewis went 13-4-6 overall and 9-2-2 in GLVC play, followed by an appearance in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.

Selected to win the GLVC Conference Title and ranked 4th in the nation during the preseason, the Flyers return key pieces from the 2023 squad that made the final four and captured the conference championship. After a weekend that produced a loss and a draw, the Flyers dropped to 25th in the most recent national poll.

Senior goalkeeper, Sebastian Doppelhofer returns to the Flyers after being named NCAA CSC DII Academic All-District Team and earned All-GLVC Third-Team honors. Justin Darlage returns for his fifth year, following his personal season records of 2,079 minutes played and 23 games started last year.


A Look at Thomas More University
The Saints went 10-7-3 and 7-5-2 in the team's first season in the G-MAC last year. The team's season came to an end following a loss to Lake Erie College in the G-MAC conference semifinals.

Thomas More welcomes back Julen van Egmond, who scored 5 goals and had 6 assists last season. Charlie Allan, who had 8 points overall last season with 1 goal and 6 assists, also returns for Thomas More. 

The Saints were picked to finish 4th in the G-MAC this season, and will compete against Roosevelt University on Thursday before facing the Wildcats.
