Josie Lakosky named GLIAC Freshman of the Year

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Josie Lakosky of NMU lacrosse has been named GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

Missing only one game to injury and starting in all 16 games she appeared in, Josie made an immediate impact on the offensive end for the 'Cats this season. The Victoria, Minnesota native led the 'Cats in caused turnovers (16), finished second in goals (40), points (52), GWGs (4), was third in assists (12), shots (86), FPGs (6), and draw controls (43), and scooped the fourth-most ground balls among the 'Cats with 28.

"Watching Josie flourish in the college game this year has been a privilege," says head coach Lindsey (LeMay) Majkrzak. "I knew during the recruitment process that she was going to be special, but the way she has handled the adjustment to the intensity and physicality of the game at this level, while maintaining her field vision and touch, has been so impressive to see. This is just the beginning for Josie."

Overall, her goal and point totals were both fourth across the GLIAC landscape, and in conference play Josie scored 16 goals and three assists for 19 points in six games. Her conference goal total was one behind the lead, and her conference point total was third among GLIAC competitors.

Josie scored 3 or more goals on eight separate occasions and posted a career-high six goals in a seven-point night against CSP.  She recorded another career game against Walsh on the road, where she posted five ground balls, five caused turnovers, and four draw controls to go with four points.
