PREVIEW: No. 2 NMU to face No. 3 CSP in GLIAC Semifinals

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's lacrosse team will start their GLIAC playoff journey on Friday, May 3rd against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears at 7 PM. 

The 'Cats will match up with the Bears for the third time this season after being ranked second overall in the conference. The 'Cats and Bears met two times this year, with NMU being victorious on both occasions by scores of 21-12 and 11-5. 

The Wildcats and Bears will compete in the GLIAC Semifinal game and the winner will go on to play the winner of Davenport and Grand Valley State on Sunday for the GLIAC Championship.

  • Senior Minnie Bittell earned her fourth GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance last week 
    • Bittell reached 300 career points in the game against Concordia with (4g, 4a, 8pts) 
  • Bittell finished the regular season with 98 points (67g, 31a, 98pts) landing at the top spot in the GLIAC across the board for goals, assists, and points 
    • Across the nation, Bittell is 10th in goals per game, 10th in assists, 10th in points, and 12th in total goals
  • Senior Kaitlyn Bridger is just two goals away from 100 career goals 
    • Bridger has 47 points on the season (34g, 13a, 47pts) finishing fifth overall in the GLIAC
  • The 'Cats faced the Bears in the first round of the GLIAC playoffs last season in Allendale; NMU came out on top, winning 15-11
A Look at the Golden Bears
The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears were ranked third in the GLIAC to end the regular season, closing out the year with 6-11 overall and 1-5 conference records. The Bears ended the season on a five-game losing streak, most recently dropping the regular season finale to the Wildcats in an 11-5 decision last Saturday. Susie Monson remains the stand-out player for the Bears with 88 draw controls on the season and holding the second spot behind Bittell for total points (39g, 19a, 58pts) across the GLIAC.
