Wildcats Fall 17-6 to Grand Valley State

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU women's lacrosse team opened its 2024 GLIAC slate of games playing host to Grand Valley State, dropping the contest 17-6.

Josie Lakosky paced all Wildcats in both points and goals, registering her ninth multi-goal evening with two goals while also recording three ground balls.

Camryn Mayer, Kaitlyn Bridger, Danielle Key, and Avery Lorinser all scored, and Minnie Bittell recorded an assist to round out the Wildcat scorers.

Norah Bates was dominant on the defensive end of things, recording four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lauren Esposito made 10 saves on the evening.

The Wildcats fall to 9-3 overall and 0-1 in GLIAC play, and the Lakers improve to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play.

How It Happened
Kaitlyn Bridger opened the scoring five minutes into the game to give the 'Cats an early one-to-nothing lead, but a quick response 40 seconds later would spring a four-goal run from GVSU to end the opening frame with a three-goal cushion.

The Lakers controlled the second frame, scoring seven unanswered to take an 11-1 lead into halftime.

The 'Cats came out of the locker room to start the half with a purpose, scoring four goals while holding the Lakers off the scoreboard in the third frame to cut into the deficit.

The 'Cats scored once more to start the fourth quarter and give them a 5-0 run, but Grand Valley would score six more times of their own before time ran out, defeating the 'Cats 17-6.
