NMU Football announces 2024 schedule

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University football team has released its 2024 schedule, including five games in the Superior Dome to go along with six road games. NMU will match up with opponents from five different states and five conferences throughout the upcoming campaign.

The Green and Gold enter the new season under second-year head coach Shane Richardson. With a year under the belt for Richardson and staff, accompanied by a healthy balance of returning and incoming talent, the 'Cats have high hopes of getting back on track in 2024.

The Wildcats will open the season with a night game in the Superior Dome, as they will clash with the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs of the Northern Sun on Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m.

The non-conference stretch will continue with a pair on the road. First, NMU will head to Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, September 5 to take on the Panthers in a first-ever matchup of the schools. The following Saturday, September 14, the 'Cats will head near the banks of the Mississippi River to take on UW-La Crosse.

Northern will return home to round out the non-conference schedule on Saturday, September 21 against Alma College for Homecoming and Hall of Fame celebrations. The 'Cats will finish out September with a bye week before opening up GLIAC competition against Saginaw Valley State at home on Saturday, October 5.

The first GLIAC road test comes in Allendale against the Grand Valley State Lakers on Saturday, October 12. NMU will then return home on October 19 to take on the GLIAC's newest addition in Roosevelt University, based out of Chicago.

The battle for the Miner's Cup will be held in Houghton this season, with the 'Cats and Huskies going head-to-head on October 26. The final home game will be the first game in November, as Ferris State will be in town on November 2 for Senior Day.

The season will wrap up with a pair of road tilts. First, the Wildcats will visit Davenport on November 9 before traveling to the Motor City to play Wayne State in the regular season finale on November 16.
