ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's lacrosse team remained on the road to play another GLIAC rival, the no. 7/8 Grand Valley State University Lakers, falling 2-13 from Allendale.
Seniors
Minnie Bittell and
Kaitlyn Bridger had the lone goals for the Wildcats with just one each. Freshman
Natalie Thomas had five ground balls and three caused turnovers for the 'Cats defense.
NMU now moves to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in GLIAC play, and ook forward to the regular season finale next weekend on Saturday, April 27th at Concordia-St. Paul.
How It Happened
The Lakers had the opening goal of the game in the first three minutes of the game but NMU then held them off for nearly four minutes before scoring one of their own from Bittell. Grand Valley was quick to answer back with a second goal, but the rest of the quarter remained scoreless.
In the beginning of the second quarter the Lakers increased their lead with two goals in the beginning four minutes. Bittell had a scoring opportunity with a wicked shot, but was shut down by the Grand Valley goalkeeper. The Lakers closed out the half 6-1.
Bridger started the scoring in the second half with a successful free-position attempt. GVSU had three unanswered goals before ending the third quarter.
The Wildcats kept up the battle into the fourth quarter but couldn't make it in the back of the net. The Lakers scored four unanswered goals to end the game 13-2.
