Box Score LIBERTY, MO. - The NMU lacrosse team bounced back from Monday's defeat with an emphatic win today, downing the Cardinals 18-7.
After conceding three straight goals and the game was tied at 3-3, NMU called a timeout to reset. Proceeding that timeout, the green and gold went on a dominant 15-0 run between the end of the first and the start of the fourth quarter to hit 18-3, putting the game out of reach. The 'Cats conceded four goals in the final frame, but ultimately cruised to the win from Liberty.
Minnie Bittell led all scorers with five goals and two assists from seven shots on target.
Kaitlyn Bridger was next with four goals, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Josie Lakosky (3G) and
Laine Stanton (2G, 1A) both registered three points, and the duo of
Lauren Esposito and
Brigid Fornek made five saves.
The Wildcats now improve to 6-2 overall, and the Cardinals fall to 1-4 overall.
How It Happened
It was all NMU to open the game, with three straight goals from Bittell and Sisson, giving the 'Cats a 3-0 lead in the opening three minutes. William Jewell would respond and capitalize off missed chances, tying the game at 3-3 with just over six minutes left in the quarter.
After a timeout, the 'Cats responded overwhelmingly, scoring five straight goals before the quarter whistle to take an 8-3 lead into the second frame.
The 'Cats continued to fire on all cylinders, scoring seven straight in the second frame that included a hat-trick from Bridger, making a combined 12-0 run between the end of the first halftime.
It was a relatively quiet third quarter, but the 'Cats extended the lead and run to 15 with three goals, finding the back of the net with every shot on target.
