PREVIEW: Lacrosse Ready to Open 2024 Season

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Lacrosse team is set to open their 2024 season at home, hitting the field against Aquinas College on Saturday, February 10 in the Superior Dome at 2:00 p.m.

The 'Cats have been selected to finish second in the GLIAC and have received one first-place vote per the 2024 GLIAC Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll, as voted on by the coaches.

Key Returners 
The 'Cats boast a handful of key returners, and maybe none more important than Minnie Bittell. Bittell rewrote the record books for the program during the 2023 season, as she became the program's all-time leader in career goals (147), assists (61), and points (208) after compiling 56 goals, 19 assists, and 75 points throughout this season, all single-season program records. 

Other key returners include Kaitlyn Bridger, who returns after earning First-Team All-GLIAC Honors in 2023 where she was second on the team in goals (37), assists (11), and points (48), and Maddi Bast, who earned Second-Team All-GLIAC recognition last season after she was second on the team in FPG (12), and third in goals (33), points (37), and draw controls (36).

Looking at Aquinas
The Aquinas Saints had a successful 2023 season, they ended with a record of 12-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Kennadie Minerich was named to the NAIA All-America Second Team. Minerich was the leading goal scorer this season and became the 13th women's lacrosse player to be named an All-American in program history. The Saints found themselves in the WHAC Championship where they fell short to the #3 ranked team, Lawrence Technological University.
