Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Weisbrod and Kuhn lead Northern to 73-50 road win at LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Jacy Weisbrod scored 25 points and Makaylee Kuhn added another 18 to lead the Northern Michigan women's basketball team to a 73-50 road win over the Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats led wire-to-wire and won every quarter, with the most separation being created early on with a 22-13 lead through 10 minutes and a 39-22 gap at halftime. All nine Wildcats that played found the score sheet, led by Weisbrod's 25, the second best output of her career. She sank six of the nine triples for the 'Cats on the afternoon.

NMU imposed its will on the glass, clearing LSSU in rebounds 44-25. NMU pulled down 19 on the offensive end, tying a season-high. Just as every Wildcat scored, everyone pulled down at least two rebounds to boot, led by Kuhn and Kayla Tierney with eight each.

The Green and Gold improved to 13-7 on the campaign and now sit at 7-4 in conference play. The Lakers fell to 1-19 and 0-11 in the GLIAC.

How it Happened
Just like she's done throughout the past month, Jacy Weisbrod got the 'Cats going with a hot first quarter. Weisbrod poured in 11 points with a trio of threes for 11 first quarter points, propelling the visitors ahead 22-13 after 10 minutes of action. Makaylee Kuhn also had it going early on, as she went on a personal 6-0 run early in the quarter to aid the Wildcat offense out of the gate.

The Wildcats put together a 7-0 spurt early in the second frame to nearly double-up the Lakers, 29-15, five minutes ahead of halftime. In comparison to the first, the second didn't provide near the offensive display. NMU held the Lakers to just nine points and were at nine themselves until two triples from Weisbrod in the final 90 seconds gave Northern a 15-9 second quarter advantage and a 39-22 lead at intermission. Jacy commanded play in the first 20 minutes, notching 19 points on a 5-9 mark from beyond the arc.

Northern continued to build upon its lead in the second half. The Lakers came out of halftime scoring seven of the first 11, but its 14-point deficit at the time was as close as they could get. NMU built its lead out to 20 by quarters end, with Weisbrod reaching two dozen points on the final points of the quarter.

The lead reached as many as 24 in the fourth as the Wildcats cruised to the finish line for a 73-50 road victory.
