MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Wildcats dropped the regular-season series finale with the Beavers on Saturday, earning one CCHA point in a 3-3 tie before falling in the shootout.
After a scoreless first,
Grant Slukynsky scored two minutes into the middle frame to give the 'Cats the first lead of the game. After Adam Flammang tied the game,
Artem Shlaine notched his team-leading ninth goal to regain the lead; but it was short-lived, as Eric Pohlkamp evened the game a minute later, and the four-goal second period ended in a 2-2 tie.
It was the Beavers who struck first in the third, Flammang getting his second of the evening, before
Andre Ghantous fired home his seventh goal of the season and 150th career point to send the game to overtime.
Neither team was successful in the 3-on-3, so a shootout was needed to determine who gained the extra CCHA point. Eric Martin was the lone scorer in the shootout, and the Beavers claimed two points on Saturday.
The 'Cats now move to 9-14-5 overall and 7-10-3 in CCHA play with 26 points, and the Beavers move to 11-15-2 overall and 9-7-2 in CCHA play with 32 points.
