PREVIEW: Northern hosts Parkside on Wednesday in GLIAC Quarterfinals

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The postseason has arrived for college volleyball, and the Northern Michigan squad will be hosting a GLIAC Quarterfinals match on Wednesday, November 20 at 6 p.m. inside Vandament Arena. 

At 19-8 overall and 13-4 in league play, the 'Cats locked up the No. 3 seed last weekend and will welcome the conference's No. 6 seeded Parkside Rangers, who went 11-16 overall with a 7-9 in-conference record. 

NMU swept Parkside in Kenosha in the first meeting of the season and survived a five-set thriller in the most recent matchup on November 2 in Marquette.

Cat Nips
  • The Wildcats are hot at the right time, coming off of two sweeps and winners of nine consecutive sets. 
  • NMU is hitting .238 on the season. The team's 830 kills, 126 service aces, and 1,027 digs are all high-points across the GLIAC. 
  • Jacquline Smith paces all conference players this season with 416 kills overall (a top-20 mark nationally) and 259 in league matches. She has 20+ kills in six matches and has reached double figures in 24/26. 
  • Smith recorded a career-high 28 kills against rival Michigan Tech on October 30, as well as a career-high 19 digs during the match. She is 4th among all of Division II active players in career kills with 1,887. On October 5th vs. Lake Superior State, Smith broke the program's all-time kills record, surpassing the previous mark of 1,664 by Andrea Gommans that stood since 1993. She also reached 1,000 career digs earlier this season, becoming the 18th player in NMU history to hit the milestone.
  • Allie Barlow leads all GLIAC setters with 1,076 assists. The sophomore has also notched 44 service aces, good for 2nd best across the conference. 
  • Liesl Haugen's 416 digs are the third most in the GLIAC this season. She recorded a career-high 31 digs in NMU's five-set win at Michigan Tech on October 30. 
  • Caylie Barlage became the 19th Wildcat to hit the 1,000 career digs milestone in NMU's victory at Michigan Tech on October 30. 
  • Meghan Meyer hit her 1,000th career kill earlier this season in a match against Michigan Tech. Her .373 hitting percentage in conference games is the 4th highest in the conference. 

Notes on Parkside
The Rangers have lost two in a row and hold a record of 4-5 on the road. The team is hitting .181 on the season while opponents are at .198. With 14 three-set decisions, more than half of their matches have gone the minimum, while they hold a record of 6-8 on those games. 

The Rangers are led by a pair of sophomores in outside hitter Sam Fisch and libero Natalie Harris. Named an All-GLIAC Second Teamer as a freshman, Fisch has tacked on 355 kills this season on a .260 attack percentage. She is also second on the team with 60 blocks. 

Defensively, Harris was named All-GLIAC Second Team as a freshman and now leads the conference with 496 digs and a 4.96 digs per set average as a sophomore. She recently eclipsed the 1,000 career digs milestone in the team's last match at Ferris State and had a career-high 31 digs two weeks ago against the Wildcats.
