MARQUETTE, Mich. -
Olivia Webber is a senior on the 2024 NMU volleyball team. The student-athlete from Marshall Michigan will plan to graduate this year after playing in her last collegiate season with the team.
Webber is graduating with a degree in Accounting. After the school year, Webber explained that she is set to, "have an internship in Detroit this summer and just pursue my accounting career, but I'll be moving back downstate for now."
During her time as a Wildcat, Webber cherishes her moments spent with her team the most. She learned to find value in all aspects of being a collegiate athlete, and this mindset allowed her to stay competitive as she battled an injury for much of her collegiate career.
"I have been struggling with hip issues since my first year of college, which I wouldn't have expected because I came into college super healthy and I've never really had any issues," Webber explained, "I found out I had a torn labrum in both my hips. Pushing through that has been one of the hardest things ever… because it's ongoing and it wasn't one easy fix or just rehab that I could do."
Webber says she is most proud of herself, during her time as an NMU Volleyball player, for finding peace in her struggles with her injury and maintaining a level of happiness whether or not she found herself on the court or the sideline.
So far in the 2024 season, Webber has tallied 21 kills with a .235 hitting percentage and 166 career kills.
When reflecting on her journey, Webber would advise any incoming freshman to be as open minded as possible, while trying, "as hard as you can and try to not take all the little moments for granted."
The Wildcats will face Parkside in the GLIAC Quarterfinals match on Wednesday, November 20 at 6 p.m.
