CHICAGO - The NMU men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Roosevelt Lakers in Chicago on the teams senior day this Sunday.
The Lakers broke through a half an hour into the contest to take a 1-0 led to the locker room. Both teams recorded two shots on target in the opening frame, with the Wildcats taking six corner kicks to the Lakers three.
The Lakers scored goals in quick succession to open the second half, and the 'Cats found themselves in a 3-0 hole less than seven minutes into the second.
Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin received a beautiful pass from
Kyle Cameron to score late in the match, and despite out chancing the Lakers with eight shots to four and two corners to none, the Wildcats were unable to complete the comeback.
The Wildcats now move to 5-7-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play. The Wildcats now look to next weekend, as the team rounds out the regular season on the road with crucial matches against Purdue Northwest and Parkside.
How It Happened
The Lakers opened the scoring off a quick service from an awarded free kick, as the ball hadn't stopped moving before the Laker player struck the ball. The long pass landed ahead of Schuster and behind the Wildcat defense, and he scored his one on one attempt against Cedergren.
An errant pass on the defensive end led to Schuster all alone with Cedergren, who came off his line to cut down the angle, but Schuster found an opening and took a two goal lead early in the second half.
Deep into the second half,
Kyle Cameron chased down a lead pass from
Jan Hoffmann down the right side of the box. Cameron corralled the ball on the touch line and slipped a pass to
Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin, who deposited the ball to the back of the net past the outstretched hand of the keeper.
