GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The NMU women's soccer team was blanked for just the third time this season in a 1-0 loss to Davenport on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats conceded the first goal of the match for the first time in nine games, and the Wildcats' unbeaten streak comes to a close at seven straight.
This marks the first Panther win over the Wildcats since 10/20/2019, a 3-2 Davenport decision.
Panthers leading scorer Haley Diekevers scored the lone goal on the evening, coming just six minutes into the match.
The Wildcats outshot the Panthers 14-2, holding Davenport to zero shot attempts in the second half.
Justina L'Esperance recorded six shots with three on targets to lead the Wildcats, while
Sally Patton made one save on the evening.
Along with Patton,
Maria Storm,
Hannah Kastamo,
Kenna Alexander, and
Angelina Perritano all played the full 90.
NMU now sits 8-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play with 19 points, now one point behind first-place Grand Valley State with 20.
The 'Cats now return home for three straight, starting with Roosevelt on Friday, October 25th at 3 PM.
How It Happened
The Panthers struck first, and it was DU's assist leader Gabby Scholten who slipped a pass to DU's leading scorer Haley Diekevers who raced in on Patton to score just six minutes into the match.
