Men's Soccer to host St. Cloud, Roosevelt

The 'Cats meet a St. Cloud team receiving votes in the national poll and on a five game win streak on Wednesday, first meeting in program history against Roosevelt on Sunday

MARQUETTE, Mich. - After quite the weekend at home, Northern Michigan's men's soccer team doesn't have much time before getting right back into action, as they face St. Cloud State on Wednesday and Roosevelt University on Sunday on the Wildcats' home turf.

The 'Cats come into the week seeking revenge against the current leaders of the GLIAC after NMU conceded on a late set piece in St. Cloud about a week ago. The Huskies, who are third in the region and receiving votes in the national poll, are currently ranked 5th nationally for their scoring offense and Husky Philip Caputo is ranked 3rd for total goals scored in the season so far.

Ranked 4th in the conference, the Lakers come into the weekend with a 3-1-2 overall record and 1-1 in the GLIAC ahead of the first ever meeting in program history.

The 'Cats will face the Huskies on Wednesday, October 2, at 2 p.m., and the Lakers on Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m.

A Look at St. Cloud State
The Huskies currently lead the conference, with a record of 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC. Thanks to a current five game win streak, the Huskies have shot up in the Midwest DII mens soccer poll, moving from unraked to third in the region.

Ranked 5th nationally for their scoring offense, the Huskies are led by senior Philip Caputo, who leads the team with 22 points, nine goals, and four assists, and is 3rd in the NCAA for total goals. Caputo was just named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after he recorded his second hat trick of the year and tacked on an assist over the weekend.

Defender Noah Eklund earned GLIAC Defender of the Week honors, 5th year senior Mika Folstad is runner-up in points to Caputo with 10, and starting goalkeeper Ramy Atia recently set a season high of 20 shots faced with four saves.

The 'Cats will look to use its home turf to its advantage on Wednesday, as the 'Cats are 2-0-1 against the Huskies all-time on home turf. Similarly, both of the Huskies losses have came on the road this year, priming a good result for the 'Cats on Wednesday.

A Look at Roosevelt University
New to the GLIAC, Roosevelt stands with a record of 3-1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Lakers got off to a good start in its first season as a D2 program, starting 3-0-2 before its most recent loss to Davenport last weekend.

Leading the team with five points is graduate student Nick Kilian, registering five assists. Junior Oskar Schuster and sophomore Noah Vasilev are in front for the team in goals, both recording two each. Junior goalkeeper, Eric Carvajal, records eight goals scored against, 15 saves in total, and a save percentage of 0.652.

This will be the first meeting in program history between the 'Cats and the Lakers, with Roosevelt holding a 1-1-2 record on the road this year.
