MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan volleyball team returns home to Vandament Arena this weekend, as they are set to take on No. 21 Ferris State on Friday, September 29 at 6:30 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Saturday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m.
Coming off of an immense road sweep over rival Michigan Tech on Tuesday, the Wildcats will look to ride that momentum onto their home court, with two big matches ahead. Ferris State enters the weekend atop the league standings with a perfect 4-0 record in the GLIAC, while NMU and Lake Superior State each sit near the middle of the pack, with LSSU at 2-2 and NU at 2-3.Â

- Freshman defensive specialist Liesl Haugen is currently sixth in the GLIAC in digs per set (3.63) while junior defensive specialist Caylie Barlage is ranked tenth (3.02)
- Senior setter Lauren Van Remortel is third in the GLIAC in assists per set (9.29)
- Junior middle blocker Meghan Meyer is ranked seventh in GLIAC rankings in hitting percentage (.323)
- Sophomore middle blocker McKenzie Gruner is coming on as of late as a force at the net, recording double-digit blocks in four straight, including eight against Parkside.
A Recap of Tuesday at Tech
NMU defeated rival Michigan Tech in conference play with a three-set sweep in Houghton just a few days ago. The first two sets went to extra points, with the 'Cats victorious 27-25 and 26-24. NMU handled Tech in the third 25-19 for the sweep.Â
Meghan Meyer and
Jacqueline Smith each shined for Northern, recording 11 kills each. Meyer was near unstoppable at the net, hitting an impressive .429.
Lauren Van Remortel showed out by setting up her teammates, recording an assist on nearly half of NMU's points. She totaled 34 assists in the match (11.33 assists/set), Â a truly impressive mark for three sets.Â
As a team, Northern hit .167, the second-best collective output so far this season.Â
A Look At Ferris State
Ferris State is currently nationally ranked at No. 21 in the latest AVCA national poll. The Bulldogs are 4-0 in GLIAC play, and 9-3 on the season, currently riding a 4-game winning streak. The team holds a .282 attacking percentage, the second-best in the GLIAC.
Kaylee Maat is first in the GLIAC in service per set (0.59) and assists per set (10.20). Junior middle hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallpe is second in GLIAC in kills per set (3.50), and leads the Bulldog attack with 154 kills. Junior Claire Nowicki (101) and senior Chelsie Freeman (93) aren't far behind.

A Look at Lake Superior State
The Lakers enter the weekend at 3-9 overall, and 2-2 in conference. They lost to Davenport in four sets last Friday, but shortly redeemed themselves by beating Wayne State in five sets on Saturday.
The team is led by senior outside hitter Mariana Velasque with 166 kills and 3.53 kills/set on the outside, both top marks in the conference. Ally Lasley and Emily Kalinowiskui lead the Lakers on defense, recording 144 and 123 digs, respectively.Â
