Northern Michigan enters the contest at 2-10 on the season and 1-3 in the GLIAC, dropping 10 of the last 11 matches after a season-opening win. The Wildcats are hitting just .129% so far this season, the lowest clip in the GLIAC, and are averaging 10.8 kills/set. The 52 blocks for NMU this season is also the lowest across GLIAC teams.
- Redshirt junior Meghan Meyer leads the attack for NMU from the middle, recording 105 kills backed by a .314 attack percentage
- Senior setter Lauren Van Remortel has recorded 384 assists, good for fifth-best in the GLIAC
- Freshman libero Liesl Haugen leads the Wildcats with 139 digs. Her 3.48 digs/set is seventh in the conference
A Recap of Last Weekend
The Wildcats dropped both matches on the road this past weekend, falling in four sets to both Purdue Northwest and Parkside.
Evynn Layshock led the team with 21 kills on the weekend, while
McKenzie Gruner added 19 kills and 10 blocks. Her eight blocks against Parkside doubled her previous career high.
A Look at Michigan Tech
The Huskies enter Tuesday's contest at 4-8 on the season and a 2-2 mark within GLIAC play. The Wildcats and Huskies have played common opponents in 11 of the 12 matches this season. As a team, the Huskies hit .170%, averaging 11.13 kills/set.
Senior outside hitter Lindy Oujiri leads the charge for MTU with 154 kills (3.42 kills/set), good for second in the GLIAC. Kaycee Meiners has added another 91 kills from the middle, hitting an impressive .321%. Freshman Tess Hayes paces the team with 399 assists and is tied for first with 120 digs.
Notes on the Rivalry
Over the last ten matchups dating back to 2019, the Wildcats have won just three contests over the Huskies. Notably, one of those victories came in 3-0 fashion in the GLIAC Championship match back in April of 2021.
Last season, each team swept the rival on their home court.
Jacqueline Smith had 19 kills to lead NMU to a victory at the Vandament and Meg Raabe recorded 17 kills at Michigan Tech in the Huskies' win.
