Wildcat Football Hits the Road to Take on Hawks

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Football team will travel to Quincy University to take on the Hawks this Saturday, September 23. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Last Week
The Wildcats hosted UW-La Crosse for Homecoming, falling 34-3. The Wildcats struggled on each side of the ball. NMU was 0-2 in the red zone, missing a pair of field goal attempts. The Eagles were a perfect 6-6 in converting in NMU's red zone, notching all 34 of their points. 

Another key takeaway was third-down efficiency, where the Wildcats were 2-11 compared to an impressive 10-14 clip for UWL. The Green and Gold were outgained 429-200 in total yardage. 


Cat Nips
  • Northern is T-8th in the country in fewest penalties, committing four per game and 12 overall. They are 5th in the country in fewest penalty yards/game at just 30. 
  • It has been a struggle offensively for Northern, as they currently rank 135 of 161 in Division II averaging just 
  • 270 yards/game. NMU is 145 of 161 in passing yards/game at 134.3. 
  • After starting quarterback Mariano Valenti went down to injury in Week 2, the Wildcats used noth Jake Bilitz and Aidan Hoard under center last week. Bilitz, in his first career start, went 9-14 for 42 yards while Hoard 3-7 for 32 yards. 
  • Tyqaun Cox is currently fourth in the GLIAC in rushing yards per game (66.0).
  • Mitch Larkin leads the team with 30 total tackles, including a career-high 15 against UW-La Crosse.

Notes on Quincy University
The Hawks host the Wildcats coming in with a record of 2-1. 

The 'Cats and the Hawks have met twice in the past, where the 'Cats are 2-0 in the matchup history. Last matchup was back in 2015, the Wildcats were victorious 31-14. The 'Cats finished with 476 yards of total offense on 123 rushing yards and 353 passing in the commanding win over the Hawks. 

Last week, the Hawks won against University of Fort Lauderdale, 49-0. Drake Davis (QB) threw for 226 yards, 3 TD, while also rushing for another 50 yards and a score.
